Has Innjoo’s Lagos office been shut down?

$

A Nairalander reported that Innjoo office located at Ikeja, Lagos has been  locked for a while now, only to find out that SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria) shut down the office. They were reportedly closed down on grounds that they’re selling substandard devices in the Nigerian market.

Here’s an excerpt from what the user said:

…Monday morning only to get there and find other Innjoo users hanging around the building. We were told that the office was under renovation but we did not see any materials being moved in nor did we see any signs of renovation going on anywhere in that building.

Eventually we got to know that the building had been shut by the standards organisation of Nigeria (SON) due to the use of sub standard materials and hardware being used to produce Innjoo phones especially Innjoo Fire.I nearly died when I heard this. So what this means is that we all have purchased substandard products from Innjoo. Just imagine the number of people who already bought this phone. Our authorities too should be blamed for the slow action.

Here’s also a picture taken from today’s edition of Vanguard newspaper

Innjoo Vanguard

The question is, Is there any truth to this? Did a lock up of Innjoo’s office facilities happen or is there a move to carry out such a thing?

Information reaching us hints that Innjoo is preparing to launch two devices in the country next week. The event is said to be tagged: Power in Nigeria. In simpler terms, this implies that both devices will carry huge batteries that would last days of use, probably like the Gionee M series.

Innjoo-Halo

Details of the new devices are under wraps, this includes both specifications and pricing, but we know their names will be called InnjooHalo and Innjoo Fire Plus. Pictured above is a teaser for one of the devices. The event is scheduled to hold on the 2nd of September, and trust us to attend and bring you all the juicy details.

Recall sometime ago, Innjoo had issues with NCC that made them close shop for weeks. Let’s hope they’ve prepared well this time to avoid stories that touch.

Innjoo has just launched two new devices in Nigeria. In a glowing event yesterday at the University of Lagos, they unveiled the Innjoo Halo and the Innjoo Fire Plus. Just like in the teaser, they mentioned the devices will be focused on delivering high battery capacities.

Innjoo Robert                                                                 Robert Liang, Innjoo MD

Innjoo Halo                                                                              Innjoo Halo

So far so good (on paper) the two phones look good on paper and we hope the real life experience will be good as well. The Innjoo Halo (pictured above) sports a 5-inch screen, Kevlar back, Android 5.1 Lollipop and 3200 mAh battery, see it’s full specs HERE.

Innjoo Fire Plus                                                                             Innjoo Fire Plus

The second device is the Innjoo Fire Plus. This one has finely curved arcs 2 GB RAM, 13 MP/5 MP wide angled selfie camera, and 3600 mAh battery. See it’s full spec sheet HERE.

The Innjoo Halo is priced at N14,000 while the Innjoo Fire Plus is priced at N27,600. Both devices will be available for pre-order on Jumia.

Robert Liang, MD Innjoo Nigeria had this to say:

“These two models are born for the Nigerian market”

“People are making the switch from feature phones to smart phones while they now have to charge their phones once or twice a day, instead of once a week. But InnJoo Halo and Fire Plus will give it a change”

Quite an audacious claim there!! :-)

Hopefully we’ll get a review unit soonest and break it down just the way you like it 😉 Meanwhile, see Adekunle Gold performing on stage yesterday.

Before you update your Innjoo One 3G to Lollipop, read this

A while ago, we announced the Innjoo One 3G HD has just received an update to Lollipop. Before rushing to update your phone, here’s a bit of information you need to know. A number of users have complained: after doing the update, the phone gets stuck at the welcome page. It doesn’t go beyond there, even after rebooting.

Innjo

Below is a testament from a Nairaland user:

Over the weekend, I stumbled on the firmware upgrade on their official website and of course proceeded to flash the ROM into my Innjoo ONE device since I have been anticipating to using the Latest version of Android (lollipop) on my device. Of course, it wasn’t my first time doing just that. I upgraded my ROM just lately with upgrade they publish before the lollipop sometimes in July/August I think.
Well, I flashed the ROM into my device and ended up with a BootLoop; it could not just go beyond the Lollipop welcome Screen (wizard setup). It kept on rebooting… I thought some fragments got missing during the downloads so I proceeded to download again this time without pausing or interfering with it in whichever way, Flashed again and got still same issue…. Lo & Behold, I realized I messed up but was it supposed to be more messy since I had no ROM backup….

The thing here is this:

Before upgrading, make sure you have your KitKat ROM backed up. This will come in handy in case the Lollipop fails to load on your phone.

Thanks to @DiaryofaGeek for pointing this to us.

The excitement continues. InnJoo plans to hold a launch event tomorrow, but before then, we had a hands on session with some of their upcoming devices. Here’s the InnJoo Max 2, which we got to experience.

Innjoo-Max (1)
At first look, you just notice that InnJoo has tremendously improved with their design. This phone somehow gives off that iPhone-esque vibe  you get what I mean. It’s made of plastic, but feels like metal. There’s a flash for the front camera, and the back features dual flash.

Innjoo-Max (2)

One interesting feature here: the SIM tray doesn’t necessarily need a pin to be pulled out. Your long nails can also do the job. The battery is non-removable and is a huge 4000 mAh capacity. The phone runs Android Lollipop, has 1 GB of RAM, and is currently available for pre-order on Jumia.

The InnJoo Max 2 Plus is the elder sibling of the InnJoo Max 2. Both phones are very similar in terms of specs the only major difference here, the InnJoo Max 2 Plus has a bigger screen (5.5 inches) and bigger battery (4600 mAh). Both phones also share the same design.

Innjoo-Max-Plus (2)
They share same camera specs too with an LED flash at the front and dual LED at the back. Android Lollipop is present here, though I don’t know why Innjoo still stuck with 1 GB RAM. This bigger version should’ve had 2 GB.

Innjoo-Max-Plus (1)

The phone looks sleek, once again we acknowledge that Innjoo has improved with design. The 4600 mAh battery is non-removable. The phone is also up on Jumia for pre-orders, and will be officially launched tomorrow.

Is this the TECNO Phantom 5 Killer? Unboxing and Hands on with the InnJoo 2

Yesterday, InnJoo held the much publicized “More than One” event. Just like we predicted, they launched four devices, a smart TV, the Max 2, Max 2 Plus, and the flagship InnJoo 2. The last device on that list will be our focus for now. We got a review unit and here’s our unboxing and first impressions.

Innjoo 2 (1)
InnJoo still uses this same red box 😀 Almost all their devices use this box. Open it and you find the phone on top. Beneath is the charger, and earphones in different compartments. There’s no manual inside here, but then who still uses a manual?

Innjoo 2 (6)

The InnJoo 2 is beautiful, sleek and slim. You also notice they picked lots of design elements from Apple. That big circle in the center is a 13 MP selfie camera. The flash is on the left, and sensors on the right. It comes with Inn UI and a customised launcher on the home screen.

Innjoo 2 (5)
Take a good look at the sides, and you will see the SIM tray on the left, and on the right, volume rockers and power button. It’s interesting to note that InnJoo managed to pack this slim device with a huge 3200 mAh battery.
Innjoo 2 (4)
The top and the bottom. Very sleek right? 😉 That’s a full metal frame you’re looking at.
Innjoo 2 (3)

Saving the best for the last, see the back side. That camera is a 13 MP lens, the circle is a finger print scanner. Spoiler Alert!! You can use it to take pictures too

Innjoo 2 (2)

So far, so good. The phone looks amazing on paper. You can see the full specs HERE. Something tells me this might be the TECNO Phantom 5 killer, but hey we only need to use this extensively before concluding. Meanwhile, what are your thoughts?

That Apple’s iPhone has been a runaway success is no longer news. That successful products often inspire a lot of copy work is also not in doubt. We got our hands on two smartphones from two different brands whose physical design bear an uncanny level of inspiration by the iPhone 5s. As a matter of fact, using the word “inspiration” is putting it mildly. Everything about these smartphones scream “iPhone”! Yet they are both thoroughbred Android-powered devices. Enjoy the gallery!

Late last year, the value of the Nigerian Naira against the dollar was devalued. This directly affected the prices of various commodities – phones especially. We at MobilityArena predicted that prices of phones would escalate, and it already manifesting.

A quick look at the Innjoo page on Jumia  shows some very incredible price hikes on phones. See screen shots below:

Halo

The Innjoo Halo is now priced at N21,260 while the Innjoo Fire Plus is now priced at N41,400. Formerly these phones were priced at N14,000 and N27,600 respectively. Incredible !! See proof HERE.

Fire Plus

Even the likes of Infinix have slightly increased the price of their phones too. Suddenly, now is such a wrong time to buy a phone. Especially, those that like playing the waiting game. Kpele. 😛
